“I really did not understand the complete loan process when I was a student in school, and then I got the opportunity to work at Sallie Mae. The skills I have learned here will enable me to help my friends and family apply for school loans. I am very grateful for my position at Sallie Mae, and I am not sure where I would be today without them.”

“My goal is to make sure our customers get accurate information and have a great customer experience. I want them to feel confident that they've made the right choice by choosing Sallie Mae. Sallie Mae has been the one of the best employers I've ever had. The excellent health care benefits Sallie Mae provides have been critical to my family due to my husband's chronic illness. I've had peace of mind knowing that I can get him the care he needs and we haven't faced financial ruin like many families who cannot get good health care coverage. In addition, Sallie Mae has consistently recognized and rewarded my hard work and contributions to the success of our company. I'm so grateful to have such a wonderful employer.”

“Throughout the course of my career at Sallie Mae, I know that I have made a difference in the lives of students on a daily basis. I retired from the United States Air Force in November 1992, and started working for Sallie Mae in February 1993. Sallie Mae gave me an opportunity for a better life by helping me buy my first home and sending my three children to college as well. Sallie Mae is a wonderful company that I am proud to be working for. ”

“I feel that Sallie Mae is like a big family, we will rally together in the tough times, and celebrate together during the good times. We often lead the community when it comes to philanthropy, especially in supporting numerous local charities. Because Sallie Mae is like a big family, it has allowed me to work with borrowers, schools and other customers with that same mind set. I know that because Sallie Mae has taught me to really care about my customers, I can go above and beyond to help with their issues. ”

“The sense of satisfaction that I receive from my daily resolution of outstanding problems is something that I never grow tired of. While most folks may consider this a form of customer service, I think of it more as community service, as my actions are directly or indirectly helping out those in my own community, as well as those abroad, in obtaining the necessary funding for their educational needs.”

What Employees Are Saying:

Glen A. Bulger

“I take great pleasure in processing loans and resolving any issues that may arise in that process. The end result of a student being able to attend school instead of the alternative is very rewarding. Whether the funding is needed to stay in school or stay in campus housing, making the loan process less of distraction and more of a given is very satisfying.”

“Working with Sallie Mae has brought me a sense of pride and purpose in the students’ lives. I am a student myself and would not be in any capable hands other than Sallie Mae’s. The student loan process seems effortless as a student. Working with Sallie Mae as an employee helps me understand what dedication and determination the company has in educating students about financial loans.”

“This company truly believes in helping everyone use higher education to better themselves. It would be a shame if the company going forward was not given an opportunity to continue helping schools, students and families, since SLM is both a pioneer and a visionary in the student loan industry. When the economic crisis hit, SLM did not abandon the student loan industry and was really the only one standing--committed to help out the schools and the students at all cost.”

“I have been working with Sallie Mae for 6 years and I can say that I was truly blessed with this job. I have the opportunity to help someone go to school. Even more importantly, I am a single parent of an 8 year old son and SallieMae has truly helped me financially through that. I really am grateful to Sallie Mae because there aren't that many well paying jobs in the Panama City, Fl area unless you have a degree. While I do plan to further my Education Sallie Mae is a great asset as far as my making it financially at this time. ”

I have worked one-on-one with students to help them understand the financial aid process and the loan process. I have participated in FAFSA night at Sallie Mae which has helped students and their parents apply for the financial aid. I have trained agents who help students get the financial aid they need to attend school. I continue to assist agents in their quest to get students the funding they need to attend school. I’ve worked one-on-one with students to resolve loan application exceptions, understand the loan process, and ultimately obtain the funds they need to pay for college. I KNOW I make a difference every day in the lives of students. I was 47 yrs old when I began working at Sallie Mae. “I started working for Sallie Mae after having my third child. I'm a mother and a grandmother. Working for Sallie Mae is not just a job--it's a part of my family’s life. Over the past six years, I’ve been grateful every day to get up and come to Sallie Mae. I've only had one year of college and want to go back to further my own education in Business Management. Sallie Mae is a place where I know I'm making a difference in a student’s life. Without Sallie Mae a lot of students would not be able to further their education like I want to do. As we depend on our others to reach our goals, they depend on us to get a good loan and fulfill their own.”

“Sallie Mae has provided me with opportunities I may not have received in many other companies, especially in the Panama City, Florida area. I am a single mother with two young children. If I had not been hired at Sallie Mae, I probably would not have been able to support myself or my children on my own. Sallie Mae has afforded me many opportunities to learn, grow, and advance in my career, and they have rewarded me well for my efforts. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to work for Sallie Mae as it has truly enhanced my life both personally and professionally.”

“Sallie Mae’s help with student loans is a win-win situation for the students. Even through the interest rates are determined by the government, the quality of service is not. This is where Sallie Mae makes a difference. We provide superior service to our students, which is not always the case when there is only 1 option to receive a product. I have worked with Sallie Mae for over 13 years. By working in customer service I saw firsthand how our assistance can be life changing for our students; whether it involved getting a new loan or explaining options available when the student was in a difficult situation. Hearing the relief in a student’s voice and knowing you made a difference is very rewarding. ”

“The economy is so scary right now that I thank God I have a job where the people and company care about us and are trying so hard to keep us going. I believed in the President when I voted for him and now I wish he would believe in us now. My fellow representatives are very knowledgeable and care about the student loan process as well as the students themselves. ”

“Over the years I have learned a lot about student loans. I’ve learned how to treat each account as I would wish another to treat my own, follow company guidelines and provide quality customer service to each account. These tools have not only helped countless families, but will assist my family for my own son's upcoming college years.”

“My everyday efforts make a difference because I help schools get through the students loan process. Students can concentrate more on their classes because they don’t have to worry as much about how they are going pay for their classes. Sallie Mae has made a difference in my life because when I started here I had just a high school diploma. Now I am about to graduate with a Business Degree. By working here, I was able to take my knowledge of student loans and make my fiancial aid process go smoothly.”

In Florida, jobs are on the line.

With the economy in the doldrums, it is getting harder and harder for people to find a job. But here in Florida, there are well-paying jobs that are in jeopardy, and it is not because of the weak economy. Politicians in Washington D.C. are considering legislation that would make all student loans government run, which could take
hundreds of jobs out of Florida.

We strongly support the President’s call for student loan reform. But we can achieve smart, effective reform that’s in the best interest of students, parents, and schools without sacrificing jobs here.
